The olive grove

Our grove nestles in the immense valleys and hills of Trás-os-Montes, a region famous for its quality agricultural produce. Traditional agricultural methods are still followed on the many small family owned farms in the region, and the shale soil, as well as our unique climate, is famed for growing fine wine, olive oil and sweet almonds.

Around half of our live trees are over one hundred years old and some are much older than that, being on the land when it was first purchased by my Grandfather. The other half of the grove was planted 40 years ago and in the long life of an olive tree are still in their infancy.

We grow a variety of native olive species which when blended together infuse to give our olive oil its unique flavor and character.

Organic farming

When i went for the organic certification i concluded that our olives were already managed under those principles, which interdict the use of chemical fertilizer or pesticides.

But organic farming can’t be just that, it’s also to cooperate with nature to create a richer and biodiverse system . How? By using the follow practices, all of then applied here:

To prove good environmental practices, we are certified every year by an independent entity, which gives our olive oil and other selected products the European organic farming certificate.
